Buchanan signs with Hills Eagles
Former Sydney Swans Premiership player Amon Buchanan has signed with the Sydney Hills Eagles as a player and assistant coach for the next two seasons. Buchanan played 116 games with the Swans from 2002 – 2009 including the Swans maiden Premiership in 2005.
He was traded to the Brisbane Lions in 2010 where he played a further 18 AFL games before retiring from the AFL at the end of the 2012 season.
Buchanan was amongst the best players in the Lions’ 2012 NEAFL Northern Conference Premiership Team and successful 2012 NEAFL Championship Team.
In addition to his playing duties with the Eagles, Buchanan will also assume the role of Assistant Coach with a focus on mid-field, stoppages and clearances.
Joining Buchanan at the Eagles in 2013 is former Sydney Swans rookie Eugene Kruger and former Collingwood listed player Trent Stubbs. Both Kruger and Stubbs are local Sydney Hills area juniors and Kruger was a member of the 2010 Eagles’ Sydney AFL Premier Division Premiership Team before being rookied by the Swans. Known for his elite endurance, Kruger is already setting new standards at Eagles pre-season training.
Trent Stubbs played his junior football with the Baulkham Hills Hawks along with a brief stint at the Eagles before being drafted to Collingwood in 2010. All three players are expected to have a major impact in the NEAFL Eastern Conference in 2013 and add significant depth and experience to the Eagles mid-field.
