NEAFL comes to Wagga
By James Matthey
The NEAFL makes its annual pilgrimage to Wagga Wagga this Saturday when the GIANTS reserves take on Ainslie in Round 4 of the AFL’s second tier competition.
This is the Riverina’s second taste of elite football this year, earlier hosting a NAB pre-season cup match between the Brisbane Lions and GWS GIANTS.
The March 2 clash was a huge success, not only on the field but off it too, with the GIANTS visiting schools, conducting clinics and meeting fans in what was a morale boosting event for the community.
After undergoing a $130,000 upgrade last year, McPherson Oval now provides a spectacular backdrop for some aspiring AFL talent to show off their skills.
Ainslie will be looking to bounce back from their Round 3 loss to Morningside, while UWS will be hoping to notch their first win of the season after going down to the Swans reserves and Brisbane reserves in their first two games.
UWS have extra incentive to push for win, looking to exact revenge for last year’s corresponding Round 17 fixture in Wagga when they went down to Ainslie by 13 points.
