TRYC players on notice to improve
TRYC lost its first game of the season last weekend when it was outplayed by 17 points at Victoria Park and Mazzocchi was less than impressed with the performance of the team.
Speaking openly this afternoon, Mazzocchi said TRYC would be dropping players as a result of their performance against Marrar last week.
“We will make changes,” Mazzocchi said.
“We are not going to sit back and wear that.
“There won’t be massive changes but there will be some and we have some blokes who are playing good footy in the twos (reserve grade) who deserve a chance.”
Still upset by the insipid showing, Mazzocchi also pledged to put a high number of players on notice to lift their work-rate and effort this weekend against CSU.
“There will be about 14 blokes who will be put on notice,” Mazzocchi said.
“We had some real lazy efforts (against Marrar).
“We dropped a few guys last week because their training and preparation slipped off and anyone whose training and preparation slips off now then they will be the first to go.
“Regardless of names, if you don’t do the work at training and on the field then you won’t be in the team.”
Mazzocchi said TRYC had been outplayed in the basics of football against Marrar.
“It was a disaster from our point-of-view,” Mazzocchi said.
“We just lacked the effort and intensity – but I don’t want to take anything away from Marrar because they were excellent.
“They worked really hard for each other and our effort was just disappointing.”
While drawing a line in the sand regarding what is an acceptable performance, Mazzocchi backed TRYC to bounce back with a positive showing against CSU on Saturday.
“If we can’t rise to the challenge this weekend then we have some serious problems,” Mazzocchi said.
“We have the players with the quality and the experience and I expect they will all bounce back.”
While admitting TRYC faced a “tough challenge” against CSU, Mazzocchi said the Magpies would be concentrating on improving some simple aspects on Saturday.
“It will be a real focus on effort and intensity at the contest,” Mazzocchi said.
“The boys will need to bounce back and I am expecting them to do that.”
