Merv Neagle tribute night
By James Matthey
The AFL community will rally around the family of Merv Neagle when they pay tribute to the former great during a fundraising night later this month.
AFL stars Brendon Fevola, Anthony Koutoufides and Doug Hawkins will be on hand to speak at the event, while they will also be joined by Neagle’s former Essendon teammate and premiership captain Terry Daniher as well as a host of others.
The event will be held from 12pm on Wednesday August 21 at Albury’s SS&A Auditorium, with tickets available for $50 per head.
The event is designed to honour the life of Neagle, who passed away in August 2012 after a tragic road accident.
Neagle was a member of Essendon’s 1984 premiership-winning side, before moving to Sydney in 1986 and playing 56 games in the red and white jersey.
A memorabilia auction will be held, with all proceeds from that and ticket sales going towards helping the Neagle family, including wife Donna and children Jay, Jydon, Nathan, Matthew and Jaxon.
