The Sydney Swans are on the board in 2014 after a convincing 63-point win over Adelaide.

Lance Franklin had his best game yet in red and white with four goals, and Luke Parker also added four, in the side’s first trip to the Adelaide Oval.

After a tight start, the Swans kicked some late first quarter goals to build a four-goal buffer at the first break.

Throughout the first half, ‘Buddy’ got to work silencing some of his critics with some of his trademark athleticism.

The Crows staged a fightback early in the second half where the almost snatched the lead, but the Swans put the foot down and ran away with it.

Josh Kennedy led the ball winners with 28 disposals, while Kieren Jack had a great all-round game with 19 disposals, two goals and nine tackles.

Ben McGlynn (10 tackles) and Nick Malceski (25 disposals) were also named in the best.

Adelaide’s top performer was Rory Sloane.

The Swans now host the 2-1 North Melbourne next Sunday at the SCG, a game both sides will be desperate to win.

GWS GIANTS 10.19 (79) def. Melbourne 7.5 (47)

Another game at Spotless Stadium, another afternoon of bad weather, another win for the GIANTS – the home team beating Melbourne by 32 points on Sunday.

The stars of the show for the GIANTS were Adam Treloar and Shane Mumford, who both had monster games.

The wet conditions made scoring incredibly difficult in the first half, with just three goals between the two sides at half time.

Things opened up in the second half, with the GIANTS going into the final term seven points up and running away with it from there.

Treloar had 33 disposals, 14 tackles, 11 clearances and a goal, while Mumford had the third-highest hitout total in AFL history with 60 taps and he too managed a goal.

Callan Ward was also a standout with 26 disposals and 11 tackles.

For the Dees, former GIANT Dom Tyson led the ball winners with 25 disposals and 10 clearances.

The GIANTS, who’ve already doubled their win tally from last season, now face the Western Bulldogs in Canberra on Saturday.

NSW/ACT Notes

Hawthorn trio Isaac Smith (Temora), Matt Suckling (Wagga Tigers) and Luke Breust (Temora) featured in a Channel Seven half-time story Friday night talking about their NSW upbringings.

In the win over Fremantle, Smith had 30 disposals, three goals and 12 marks in a best-on performance. Suckling had 30 disposals also, while Breust also kicked three goals.

Taylor Duryea (Wahgunyah) had 20 disposals with 10 marks, while Will Langford (East Sydney) received praise by the commentators for his performance.

Tom Hawkins (Finley) was a match-winner for Geelong, with three of his four goals against Collingwood coming in the final quarter. Team mate Hamish McIntosh (Lavington) had 12 hitouts, 16 disposals and a goal.

Kieren Jack (Pennant Hills) and Ben McGlynn (Wentworth) were both standouts for the Swans (see match report). Harry Cunningham (Turvey Park) was lively up forward with three goals.

Jarrad McVeigh (Pennant Hills) had 21 disposals and a goal. Dane Rampe (UNSW-ES Bulldogs) was the team leader in rebound 50s (seven) and one-percenters (eight).

Lenny Hayes (Pennant Hills) had 22 disposals and six tackles for St Kilda in their away loss to West Coast.

Jacob Townsend (Leeton-Whitton) had 12 disposals with eight tackles for GWS on Sunday. Dylan Addison (St George) had 11 disposals and five marks.

Daniel Cross (Albury) picked up 19 disposals for Melbourne. Dean Terlich (Osborne) had 14.

Orren Stephenson (Mangoplah-CUE) made his first Richmond appearance for the year and had 24 hitouts in the loss to the Western Bulldogs.

Sam Rowe (North Albury) had 15 disposals and 14 hitouts for Carlton in their loss to Essendon.
