AFL RIVERINA TV – MITCH CARROLL

Former Ganmain premiership-winning coach, Mitch Carroll, believes the Farrer League is narrowing the gap on the RFL in terms of quality and standard.

The Coleambally mentor told the AFL Riverina TV Show that he thinks the elite players in the RFL still shade the top level of FFL players, but improved recruiting is lifting the standard.

And he couldn’t be happier with some of the Blues’ recruits this season, in particular local junior Dean Pound – who’s returned to play alongside his four brothers – and 20-year old Fred Stephan who came to Coleambally from the Geelong Football League.

“He’s fitted in really well… He’s been playing Centre Half Back all year. His professionalism I suppose, coming from the Geelong League, and just a few different ideas he’s thrown around at training… and the way he can read the play, it’s pretty exciting.”
