AFL RIVERINA TV – NETBALL PREVIEW
Leeton-Whitton’s A-grade netballers are flying the flag for the club this season, unbeaten heading into round 9 of the RFNL.
While the Crows’ senior footy side is on a steep learning curve with one of the youngest teams in the league, the netballers have emerged as the big surprise packets in their competition.
Reigning premiers Mangoplah were rolled at Narrandera last week – a result Caren Hugo said was still ‘no consolation’ for the pain of losing on grand final day last year – but both sides have already fallen victim to the Crows this season.
On AFL Riverina TV this week Hugo and Mangoplah’s Shea Byrne remarked that it will take a good performance to beat the Crows.
“Leeton’s mid-court is very good,” said Byrne. “[Coolamon this week] is going to have shut those down before it gets to the circle because their shooters don’t really miss.”
Hugo’s Eagles meet Leeton-Whitton again in round 10. “They’ve been really consistent, so hopefully we can rattle them a bit, take them out of their comfort zone and make them play a different style.”
In an entertaining discussion, the pair also discussed representative competition, the standard of the RFNL, the importance of netball to Riverina football clubs, and ran the rule over their rivals ahead of this weekend’s matches.
