AFL RIVERINA TV – JAYDEN KOTZUR & BARRY LOGAN

Footy returns to Matong sports ground this weekend, and the Lions turn into Magpies, for just the second RFL game in the town since the formation of GGGM in 1982. It shapes as a massive day for the club, which will also celebrate 30 years since its first premiership in 1984, as well as a 10-year reunion of the 2004 premiership. Grand final day 1984 was memorable not only for Mick Walsh’s controversial goal to snatch victory from Ariah Park-Mirrool, but also for Ganmain’s only reserve grade flag. The Lions missed a clean sweep though, with the under 19s beaten by Leeton by a point – but only after the goal umpires met in the middle and declared that the scoreboard – which was showing a draw – was incorrect.
