Riverina Grand Final set to be huge
CAK will enter the match as slight favourites, but this is expected to be a very tight contest.
All seven non-competing RFL coaches were quizzed on the result of the game earlier this week, with four tipping a CAK win, and three favouring MCUE.
One thing all the coaches agreed on was the closeness of the clash, with the average margin tipped to be just 15 points, and with sunny skies forecast, punters will turn out in droves for the RFL’s culmination.
The clubs are bitter rivals, and there’s a compelling history of stoushes between the teams.
MCUE and CAK, both formerly clubs in the Farrer League, have played the only two drawn Grand Finals in the league’s history, winning one replay apiece.
Before MCUE joined the RFL (and later dominated FFL) the two clubs played 10 deciders against each other (including the two replays) and won four each.
In fact, until MCUE left the league in 1995, all four of their Farrer premierships were won against the Goannas.
The Demons were runners up six times, with four of those losses coming at the hands of MCUE.
MCUE won 11 flags in total and were runners up 10 times during their stint in the FFL, missing the Grand Final just once in their last 14 years in the competition.
CAK’s record is just as impressive, featuring in eight grand finals in their last nine seasons in the Farrer league, and winning five, with their four years thus far in the RFL yielding three Grand Final appearances already.
The game kicks off at 2:45pm on Sunday and will be live streamed on the AFL Riverina website.
